Compensation

Student wage, up to 20 hours/week, $12-15/hr. Appointment from May 19 through August 1, inclusive.

Job Description

Support services for summer undergraduate research programs at Virginia Tech. Duties include, but not limited to, mentoring summer research students, planning and facilitating social activities, setting up and running weekly professional development meetings, creating media and related content for website and publications, and generally representing the Office of Undergraduate Research at large. Chaperone students on field trips, which may include driving a 12-seater van. Other office related support as assigned. Possibly deliver at least one information session/workshop on how to get involved in undergraduate research. Must be available to assist with the all-day summer research conference (on July 31, 2025) and weekly professional development meetings (Wednesday 4:00-5:00 p.m.).

Qualifications

Undergraduate student or recent graduate with experience conducting undergraduate research, particularly as part of an organized summer program. Excellent communication and writing skills. Outstanding organizational and people skills. Current driver’s license and good driving record.

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide the name and e-mail address of someone who has personal knowledge of your work ethic, interpersonal skills, and quality of work, as your supervisor. Your listed reference will be asked to complete a brief survey and indicate whether or not they would recommend you for the position of peer mentor. Recommendations must be received by March 19 at 5:00 p.m.
